My love for this breed began the summer
2006. I was looking for a working dog that would be adaptable to a home in
the mountains and have to courage to control the wild animals that live and roam
in the BC mountains. I researched many dogs and finally came across Perro
de Presa Canario and like most people I never heard of this breed before.
At first the info I found was from breeders across the US with similar
information but I wanted more as to there history and purpose. I came
across Irema De Curto and their wealth of information made me realize, this is
the dog I truly want in my life. The history of this fascinating
breed goes as far back to the conquistadores invading The canary Islands.
The more I researched the more I wanted to read and learn about the breed.
From then on, I knew this is the only breed of dog I would ever own.
In truth I am obsessed with the Presa Canario and probably always will be.
Ebony was my first Presa. She was
imported from Spain at 8wks and I bought her from a breeder in BC and she came
into our home at 12 weeks. She was timid at first but once she settled in
she opened up and played like a regular puppy. She was easy to train and
so obedient and loyal to me at a very young age. She never leaves my side,
she is my soul mate, my true warrior girl.
Odin came into our home a year later. He
is the son of Magnum from co owner WarsneyK9. Odin as a puppy was a
typical male trying to rule the roost but Ebony being a year older put him in
his place. Odin has a goofy personality, always trying to get attention
and he loves his chest being rubbed. As Odin and Ebony grew together,
nature took over and they became mates having a litter of 13 pups in 2009.
All pups were born healthy and all have been sold to wonderful homes. We
decided to keep two, Raven and Thor. Raven is no longer with us, she
was murdered in spring and she is missed dearly. The man who shot her is
currently under investigation and will be charged for her death; she was to be
my new line in my next breeding. Ebony will be breed one more time and we hope
our Raven comes back to us. In spirit she is here and I hear her
cawing in the morning when the sun is rising. She will always be my
messenger, she too is my heart and soul as her mother is.
Here are a few pictures of our dogs. All my
pups were named after King Odin Norse mythology.
